Beaverlac Camping and Hiking - Porterville

Overlanding Trips

Beaverlac is a holiday resort in the Olifants mountains just outside Porterville.

It is on the road to the Groot Winterhoek National Park. You will find Beaverlac at
S -32.907878 E 19.068555 .  Just after you reached the top of the Dasklip mountain pass, Beverlac’s road is the first big road to the left.

Normal cars will make it to Beaverlac, but remember it is all gravel road and sometimes the gravel road is not too good. So rather leave the Ferrari in the garage and use Tazz. (Good news, the Porche Cayenne will make it there)

You can contact Beaverlac on 022-931-2945 or see their web site at http://beaverlac.co.za

Beaverlac has various chalets and a camping site.

As 4×4 enthusiast who prefer to stay as far away from other people as possible, Beaverlac is not a place where I will pitch my tent. It is a busy and popular camping site.

There are lots to do at Beaverlac. There are various hiking trails, you can swim in the rock pools, fish in the river and do rock climbing.

Beaverlac is far from town but they do have a shop which offers most of the basic necessities, including ice, wood, bear and wine.

There are no electrical points at the camping sites, CD/DVD players are not allowed but it is a dog friendly camp and you are welcome to bring your best friend with.
